Nearly two years ago, West Coast
Homeopathic Society became one of the founding members of the Canadian
Coalition for Homeopathic Medicine (CCHM). Along with
approximately 25 other homeopathic organizations from across Canada, we
established a coalition to work with similar coalitions representing other
natural health care modalities. Together, the coalitions were
expected to co-ordinate an economic sector study for Complementary and Alternative
Medicine, with the CCHM representing homeopathic interests. At the time, I agreed to act as
representative for all organizations in BC and to fill the position of
Vice President on the Executive.
Within a year, two of the largest organizations (NUPATH and OHA)
had withdrawn from the CCHM. Since the sector study proposal would
require 80-90% representation of the entire profession, clearly it was
essential that these two groups be encouraged back into the
Coalition. However, there was little support for this from
organizations based outside of
BC. Over time, the WCHS Board became more and more disillusioned
about the future of the
Coalition and gave notice that no more money would be paid into this
project until our concerns were addressed.
Finally by March 2003 I was instructed by the Board to resign as Vice President of the
CCHM and a month later West Coast Homeopathic Society formally withdrew
membership with the Coalition.
