President’s Report




Over the past year the Board has worked on the following projects:

1)  Increasing public awareness and understanding of homeopathy by:
-   attending the Healthy Living Expo at Robson Square
-   attending the Complimentary and Alternative Medicine conference
-   giving introductory lectures on homeopathy at Langara College
-   publishing the Homeopathy BC newsletter for members
-   distributing "What is Homeopathy?" brochures and practitioners lists to health
     food stores

2)  Working towards furthering the profession of homeopathy in the province by:
-   holding a series of "Future of Homeopathy in BC" meetings:
     #1 was a discussion about the benefits and limitations of self regulation with
     speakers from the Health Professions Council and the Midwives Association
     #2 was an ethics workshop facilitated by Janet Erikson
     #3 was a discussion on forming a professional association in BC, facilitated by
     Miranda Castro -- a steering committee was formed to oversee this process
-   continuing to work on and refine the code of ethics
-   beginning to look at standards of practice including contact with the Council
    for Homeopathic Certification (CHC)
-   looking into the requirements for obtaining professional liability insurance

3)  Connecting with other homeopathic organizations by:
-   exchanging memberships with NASH
-   networking with other associations including the Ontario Federation of
     Homeopathic Practitioners (OFHP), the Australian Homeopathic Association
     (AHA), and the New York State Homeopathic Association (NYSHA)

4)  Staying informed politically by:
-   attending the HANS forum on "The Future of Natural Health Products"
-   nominating two homeopaths for the advisory committee to the Office of
     Natural Health Products
-   staying informed about the status of, and access to, homeopathic remedies

5)  Fundraising and community building by:
-   hosting a "Holiday Season Celebration" that included a raffle and a silent auction
-   selling WCHS T-shirts and memberships at the NASH conference and
     co-sponsoring the NASH Beach Party
